The exploration and practice of organ procurement organization and organ transplantation management system in children

Abstract:

With the rapid development of organ transplantation technology in China, the continuous improvement of relevant national laws and regulations, and the enhancement of citizens′ willingness to donate organs after death, the importance of organ procurement organization (OPO) becomes more and more prominent. Compared with adults, organ donation by children and acquisition face more complex management and application situations, and restricted by a series of factors such as technology, ethics and culture, so the proportion and conversion rate of donation are far lower than that of adults. However, the proportion of children waiting for organ transplantation is increasing year by year. Children′s Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine started the exploration and practice of OPO management system in the hospital from 2018, and the total number of potential donors was about 70 cases by December 31, 2022, among which the number of child organ donors who completed organ procurement was 29 cases, and the conversion rate of organ donation was 41.43%. Some experience and effect have been obtained in organizational structure construction, professional personnel training and work process exploration, which provides reference for further improving and perfecting the management of organ donation by children in the future.
