Abstract:

Objective

To explore the promoting effect and application value of WeChat group of internet WeChat platform in organ donation coordination.

Methods

A total of 446 potential organ donation donors in 4 organ donation districts of Jiangxi Provincial People′s Hospital from January 2016 to December 2019 were retrospectively analyzed, all potential organ donors were divided into the traditional coordination mode group (135 cases, donation cases from January 2016 to December 2017) and the WeChat platform application group (311 cases, January 2018 to December 2019) according the coordination method in organ donation. The WeChat group consists of 5 functional modules: information confirmation of potential donors, condition assessment of potential donors, death judgment, ethical review, organ acquisition and allocation. Relevant work content and coordination requirements are embedded into the five functional module WeChat groups respectively. Group t test was used to compare the age of potential organ donors, the age of organ donors and the mean conversion time of donation between traditional coordination mode group and WeChat platform application group. The chi-square test was used to compare the conversion ratio of potential organd donors between the 2 groups, and the age, gender and geographical distribution of potential donors and completed donors between the 2 groups. P<0.05 was considered statistically significant.

Results

The age of potential organ donors in the traditional coordination mode group and the WeChat platform application group were (38±14) and (44±16) years old, respectively, the difference was statistically significant (t=-3.391, P<0.05). There were no significant differences in age, gender and donation numbers of each area between the two groups (all P>0.05). Potential organ donors in the traditional coordination mode group and the WeChat platform application group successfully donated 39 (28.9%) and 132 (42.4%) cases, respectively, and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=7.316, P<0.05). The age of completed organ donors in the two groups were (37±15) and (42±13) years old, and the mean conversion time of each case were (3.44±0.51) and (2.03±0.24) d, respectively, the differences were statistically significant (t=-2.284 and 24.090, all P<0.05). There were no significant differences in the age distribution, gender and donation numbers of each area between the two groups (all P>0.05). The traditional coordination mode and the WeChat platform application group obtained 115 and 390 large organs respectively, and abandoned 2 and 6 organs respectively.

Conclusions

The number of successful donation cases and potential donation cases were all increased as well as the time limit of each donation coordination with the application of the function module of internet WeChat platform in organ donation, and also promoted the development of organ donation work.
